The next two weeks leading up to the Chinese New Year will see high congestion as Ocean Carriers push through last minute cargo. Please speak to us if you expect to ship cargo around this period so we can help to minimise any delays.

Japan-Australia Free Trade Agreement (JAEPA) begun on 15 January 2015 

Japan-Australia Free Trade Agreement (JAEPA) begun on 15 January 2015

The Japan – Australia Free Trade Agreement has come into effect as at 15 January 2015. In order to claim free trade preference we require a certificate that outlines the rule type that is being claimed. China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (CHAFTA) agreed

On 17 November 2014, Australia and China have agreed in principle to a Free Trade Agreement between the two countries. At this stage it is still going through the legislative requirements. Currently no commencement date has been released, so we will update you as more information comes to hand.

Duty Rate Reductions

As of 01 January 2015, certain goods imported into Australia may be eligible for new Duty Rate reductions that are now avalible. Some examples are:

  • Clothing / Apparel
  • Bed Linen / Kitchen Linen / Bathroom Linen / etc.

Standard Duty Rates for the above articles were at 10% and have now reduced to 5%. For further information please contact our Customs Team.

 

OCEAN FREIGHT

Ocean Freight 

USA West Coast Port Congestion and delays

Delays from the West Coast of the USA are continuing. The delays are affecting both imports and exports to the USA as now ports other than the West Coast are commencing to be affected by the flow on. Ocean Carriers have begun to implement a Terminal Congestion Surcharge; however, the amount varies from Ocean Carrier to Ocean Carrier.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update you accordingly.

General Rate Increase (GRI)

Ocean Carriers operating from South East Asia to Australia have announced a possible GRI of USD100/20’ and USD,200/40’ effective 01 February 2015.

Even though a number of Ocean Carriers have made these announcements, we will be closely monitoring the situation and ONLY on-charge whatever increases are implemented by the carrier.
